V: Tell me, how your skating career started in Slovenia. G: My sister skated. When I was little, we took her to the training with my grandmother. I had nothing to do during her trainings. I was tired of drinking tea in the bar, waiting for her. So one time my grandma took my skates and I started to skate. I had Slovenian coach and then 2 Russian coaches came to Slovenia and I trained with them 13 years. Right now I have Slovenian coach again, we together already 3 years. I enjoy working with her. I remember WCH 2005 in Moscow, I skated awful then and after it I changed the coach. She became my coach and my results became better and better.
V: Figure skating is more work for you or hobby? G: I would not say it’s hobby. I have another job, not concerning sport, but skating is job as well. I spend so much time with it. All my friends relax on the sea regularly and so on, but I did not see sea already for 2 years. It’s hard with vacations.
V: When you started to compete internationally? G: First time I skated at ISU Junior Grand Prix, when I was 13. Ah, that was a long time ago, now I’m 25. I’m planning to skate until Olympic Games 2010.
V: Who is your favorite skater? G: I don’t have one now. But Yagudin and Plushenko used to be my favorite ones.
V: Personally, I don’t know any other skater from Slovenia. Could you tell me how is it going with skating in your country? G: All the skaters in Slovenia have to work hard to be at the same level as me. It’s not that interesting to compete at Slovenian Nationals, because there is no real rival for me. Even if I don’t skate well, anyway I’m number one in Slovenia. We have only single skating, not pairs. Honestly, conditions for trainings are not the best in Slovenia.
V: Would you like to move for some period of time in another country? Have you thought about it? G: Actually, I would like, but now I don’t have enough money for it. Slovenian Federation pays for me, when I come for competitions and for practicing somewhere during about 2 weeks. But 2 weeks is not all the time, so right now I don’t have opportunity to move somewhere.
V: Whom do you like from Finnish and Swedish skaters? G: From Swedish I think Kristoffer is good, and from Finnish Valtter Virtanen, and there are many talented female skaters in Finland.
V: How does your usual day look like? G: I wake up at 6 am, I’m at the work about 7-7.30 am. Sometimes at 12 o’clock I go to practice, and then I’m back at the work. If I have one more practice after work I go there. In the evenings I come home, eat, watch movies, and then go to bed. I train about 10 hours per week.
V: What in your opinion is better to do before the competition? G: It depends on every skater, everyone does different things. Usually I sleep a little bit before the competition.
