Read here about Kristoffer's summer, his first competition Finlandia Trophy and plans for the season.
V: Tell me how you spent the summer 2010. K: This year was a little different from my usual summer schedule. First of all I decided late to continue skating one more season, then I had a lot of work to do on my master thesis in school... So I wanted to stay at home as much as possible. In June I skated in Gothenburg. Now we also worked on the new programs. In July I went to Lysekil, just two hours north of Gothenburg for two weeks. I've been there before and they have many good male skaters so I thought it would be fun with a little change in scenery. Besides I couldn't find ice close to home during this time...I also managed a couple of shows on the island of Gotland. Then I didn't know where to go, I hadn't planned anything but finally decided to go to Colorado Springs for a couple of weeks. In America it's different, you decide yourself when to skate and for whom to train for. I worked with Tom Zakraicek and Eric Shultz for jumps and Catarina Lindgren and Tom Dixon for spins and choreography. V: Finlandia Trophy was your first competition this year. What are your imressions? K: Short program went very well. I was very happy with my skate. I skated clean program, landed all the jumps. So it was good start of the season, though I had pain in my back because of stretching. But I got some medical treatment and I did not feel any pain during the next day, so the stretching was not serious, fortunately. Free program was a bit shaky during the first half. I had some mistakes, so I know what I need to improve for the next competitions. For example I have to work on second triple axel. It’s probably the most difficult element in the program. Overall, in my opinion, Finland Trophy was a good start for me this season. V: You did not know until May 2010 if you would continue competing during the season 2010-2011 or not. Was it hard to take the decision to skate one more year? K: Yes, I took that decision in May after thinking about it some time. But I feel good and my body still works, so I decided why not? V: Audience liked a lot your performance in Stockholm on Ice show. How it was created? K: We created it with my choreographer, I thought it was nice idea to use rock music. I always listened and still listen mostly to rock-and roll, so it was a big pleasure to use such kind of music for my performance. And I’m happy to hear that audience liked it as well. I skated it again in July in Gotland’s figure skating show. V: Tell me few words about your new programs. K: We tried to make beautiful short program. It’s about fighting for keeping going on and on, when something happens in your life. I like this program very much, it suits me. We came up with this idea pretty late, it was in July, but it was very quick process. The free program is totally different, it’s some Michael Jackson routine. I’m playing gangster there and it’s very funny. V: A question not related with figure skating: How is your Master studies going? Are you done with it now? K: Yes, I had a presentation recently and everything went well. Besides, I’ve got new job. V: What are your plans for this season? K: Soon I go to Skate Canada, then I’m at home for the week and a half, then I go to Austria, and the week-end after I go to Italy. Then of course, I will participate in Nationals, which is just before Christmas. After Christmas I’m supposed to go to Europeans, Nordics and Worlds. |
